Tokyoplastic, the critically acclaimed London based directing company, have worked with Nike to promote the iconic Cortez shoe.

They have created an animated film aimed to tell the story of the Cortez’ innovation using two new characters which represent the classic Cortez shoe from 1972 and the 2009 Flywire Cortez.

On February 19th 2009, in Barcelona, Nike will release the first set of limited edition Nike Cortez Innovation to Innovation Packs. The Cortez Innovation to Innovation Pack features both the groundbreaking Original 1972 Cortez and the cutting-edge Cortez Fly Motion 2009 in one limited edition box.

The Nike Sportswear Cortez Innovation to Innovation Pack will be available from Nike’s new 1948 store in Shoreditch, London, which opens on Friday 20th February.

  1. I’m not really feeling the promotional video for the “remastered” Cortez. The concept of the shoes as animated beings is cute, but then cutting to original shoes climbing out of the original shoe and dancing around a plain surface creates a huge disconnect. Why is the viewer taken from an exciting playing field with new characters back to what looks like a storage closet? I really like the classic Cortez, so I don’t appreciate the mundane treatment of the original shoe design. Why wasn’t the classic shoe allowed to exist in the cooler playing field? These are just my creative thoughts.

As for the shoe itself I appreciate the color, texture and fabric combination. The only feature that I find visually jarring is the sole of the shoe. It looks too rugged and thick for the shoe. Such a heavy sole takes away from the elegance of the shoe. Adding a stripe of color or two might help with that.
