The film is based on a true story, and Cube will play a former high school football star who takes his niece under his wing as she becomes the first female quarterback in Pop Warner football history. The 11-year old QB, Jasmine Plummer, led her team to the Pop Warner tournament, and became the first female to play in the tournament’s 56-year history.

The trailer for the upcoming Ice Cube film “The Longshots,” has been released. Here is the official plot synopsis:

Based on a true story, a poor Illinois town comes together behind the local Pop Warner football team and their unlikely quarterback, Jasmine Plummer (Keke Palmer), the first female in Pop Warner football history. Under the tutelage of her uncle Curtis (Cube), a former high school football star, Jasmine leads her team, the Harvey Colts, to the Pop Warner Super Bowl and inspires the town of Wallace to reclaim some of its former glory.

“The Longshots” is directed by Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25th.
