Supposedly, this Heaven’s Gate Nike SB Dunk High was scheduled to release this Fall 2008, but once Nike SB discovered the truth behind the sneaker’s concept/design they pulled the plug on the whole project. The sneaker was inspired by the religious cult Heaven’s Gate which was led by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. On March 26th, 1997 in a mansion in  San Diego, CA, a mass suicide took place which resulted in 38 deaths. All 38 were found with their faces and torsos covered by a square, purple cloth, dressed in identical black shirts, and wearing brand new black-and-white Nike Cortez athletic shoes.
