The Nike Blazer was first released by Nike in 1973 as a basketball sneaker and was worn by Geoff Petrie and the “Ice Man”, George Gervin. It’s a favorite of many due to their comfort, light weight, and height, which gave players ankle support. Nike Blazers come in lows, mids, and highs and are offered in a variety of interesting colorways, it was produced in leather, canvas and suede. You can even get the Nike blazer as a hiking boot. The Nike Blazer offers several features designed to improve performance basketball footwear for the game: fine grain leather, outsoles that provides greater traction, extra support, and less weight.
It took its name from the Portland Trail Blazers; as Nike’s first hoop shoe, it proved worthy of its name. A welcomed departure from its more clunky counterparts of the time. The Nike Blazer’s simple design soon became de rigueur on and off the court and in recent times has been embraced by other cultures, including skaters, which helped process models uner the Nike SB (Skateboarding) series. The Nike Blazer’s adoption within the skate community made this the perfect shoe for the project. The colors reference the faded neon’s of eighties skate culture.
