Supposedly, this Heaven’s Gate Nike SB Dunk High was scheduled to release this Fall 2008, but once Nike SB discovered the truth behind the sneaker’s concept/design they pulled the plug on the whole project. The sneaker was inspired by the religious cult Heaven’s Gate which was led by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles. On March 26th, 1997 in a mansion in San Diego, CA, a mass suicide took place which resulted in 38 deaths. All 38 were found with their faces and torsos covered by a square, purple cloth, dressed in identical black shirts, and wearing brand new black-and-white Nike Cortez athletic shoes. Even though this sneaker design was thrown out by Nike, one sample pair still existent and is now available at eBay. Click HERE to see this insane eBay Auction. Retail $3000.

A little while ago we presented a rumored Nike SB Dunk Mid that was nicknamed the China Transit Dunk, but today we can officially confirm that this is a collaboration sneaker by Nike SB, Triumvir, and Flystreetwear, a China based skate shop. The inspiration and concept of the shoe was based on “a Beijing native’s perspective of their own city, with a theme gearing toward skate Tienanmen Square.” The Dunk Mid is going to be a special edition for fly’s Beijing shop and the first Nike shoe ever to be named after China’s great northern metropolis, “Beijing.” The sneakers incorporates several key elements of Beijing in it’s design: dust, traffic, highways, noodles, Tienanmen Square, and the capital of China. This mysterious Nike SB Dunk surfaced during the weekend and carries along an odd nickname, “Soda Cup”, that seems to have nothing to do with it’s colorway. The Nike Dunk features red suede around the toe, lacing area, and back heel with red perforated leather on the sides, toebox, and tongue. There’s also traces of white on the Nike swoosh, back heel, and midsole and a pair of green laces included. The good people over at Vagant suggest that this sneaker will release around April 9, 2009 but no other info in known. Stay tuned for more updates while we track down the meaning behind this dunk.
